Studies have shown that having a cat live with you can have many benefits for your health, both physical and mental, so why not give a little back to your favorite furry friend during Happy Cat Month.

The purpose of Happy Cat Month

The healthier the cat, the happier the cat

The healthier the cat, the happier the cat

Happy Cat Month was created by the CATalyst Council to help spread education and awareness about the health, welfare, and importance of companion cats. Due to the common misconception that all cats are self-sufficient and don’t need the kind of love and attention often associated with dogs, there are many cats that do not receive the proper health care.

The CATalyst Council works to advance the image of cats as caring, affectionate, and needing of human care as much as any pet. Through their efforts they bring awareness to cat owners to get quality veterinary care, preventative medicines, and cat safe products.

How to celebrate Happy Cat Month

Here are the top 3 ways to celebrate:

  1. A visit with the vet - there is no such thing as too healthy. If your cat hasn’t had a check-up in the last 6 months, it’s time to get one scheduled. There are many cat friendly practices, doctors who specialize in cats and mobile vets that will see your cat in your home.

  2. Parasite prevention - for the safety of pets and people. Parasites affect your cat’s health and some are transmissible to people as well. An annual control plan for both external and internal parasites protects your cat and your family members. This is important for all cats, even those that are strictly indoor pets.

  3. Microchip your cat - it's the loving thing to do. If a cat ever gets lost or escapes their collar and ID tag may get lost; a microchip increases the chances of being reunited with your feline companion. Make sure that the online information connected to your microchip is kept accurate and up-to-date.

Over the month, we will be talking about each of these points more in-depth.
